For a flexible rhinoscopy, you'll likely be sitting in a chair in the office. Your doctor will spray a local anesthetic into your nasal passages to numb the area. The thin, flexible tube with the camera will then be gently inserted into one of your nostrils and advanced through your nasal passages. The camera sends live pictures to a screen, so we can see the inside of your nose, the wall in the middle, the structures that help with breathing, and the upper part of your throat behind your nose. You might be asked to breathe normally and refrain from swallowing if possible during the examination. The whole process usually takes around 5 to 10 minutes and isn't typically painful, though you might feel a bit of pressure or a slight tickle in your nose.

We use a nasal speculum, which looks a bit like tweezers with rounded ends, to gently widen your nostril.
